A dog died in a fire May 31 in Clinton at a house that sustained heavy smoke damage.
Firefighters arriving around 9:10 a.m. May 31 at a two-story home in the 7500 block of North Sixth Avenue saw smoke coming from the roof and eaves, according to a post on Facebook from Capt. Ross Wymer of the Clinton Fire Department.
Firefighters performed an interior attack and found the fire in the kitchen. Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the kitchen, but there was significant smoke damage throughout the home, Wymer said.
Firefighters rescued five dogs from the home, but one succumbed to the smoke and died. Medics revived the other dogs with oxygen and the family of the homeowners took the dogs to an emergency veterinarian.
The cause of the fire was determined to be accidental. The fire was investigated by members of the South Summit Fire Investigation Unit.
Clinton firefighters were assisted by crews from New Franklin, Barberton, Coventry, Norton, Chippewa and Canal Fulton/Lawrence Township, Wymer said.
