Dog dies after house fire in Treme, NOFD says

Two dogs were inside, firefighters rescued one of them, but the other died in the fire.

NEW ORLEANS — New Orleans firefighters battled a house fire in Treme on Saturday morning that left a dog dead.

The NOFD said the fire started in the kitchen of the home at 2003 Dumaine Street around 10:30 a.m. The fire reached the attic.

A resident said they woke up to the smell of fire and evacuated the home. Two dogs were inside, firefighters rescued one of them, but the other died in the fire.

NOFD said residents or firefighters were not injured.

The fire is under investigation.
