Dog caught digging hole in yard to see dachshund friend—”Can’t even be mad”

An owner who discovered that her dog dug a hole in the backyard quickly realized she “can’t even be mad” after finding out why he did it in the first place.

The American Kennel Club says canines, especially hunting dogs such as terriers, will dig because of their genetics. They are denning like their ancestors have done or because they’re searching for prey. Dogs might also leave holes in the yard because digging is a stress reliever or simply trying to perform the great escape.

However, TikTok user @theblondeceo1’s dog was digging because he simply wanted to be neighborly and hang out with “his little friend,” the dachshund next door.

In a recent TikTok video, which reached over 82,700 views and 5,800 likes as of Tuesday, the owner went over to confront her boxer digging a hole in the corner of the fenced-in yard. He purposely dug deep enough for the neighbor’s tiny dachshund to squeeze under the fence. He proudly sat as she inspected his work.

It didn’t look like the hole would be big enough to see the neighbor’s dog, but out of nowhere, she stuck her little snoot under the fence, and the owner immediately started screaming and cracking up.

The video’s text reads, “I can’t even be mad cuz he’s too cute.”

While the boxer kept jumping for joy, the dachshund looked frightened that the owner had discovered their secret. The dog wanted her to mind her business and leave the two besties alone.

Some owners might’ve immediately filled in the hole and put in blockers to prevent it from happening again, but not this dog parent. The owner told Newsweek via TikTok that instead of filling it, she “left it to let them play.” And luckily, the neighbors didn’t seem to mind either. She said they think it’s hilarious.

Now, the two dogs can hang out until their hearts’ content, sniffing each other and playing. However, some viewers are demanding both owners do more.

“Okay so now you have to put a little gate there for them,” wrote a TikTok user.

Another added: “Aw how cute, ask next door for a play date.”

She informed everyone in the comment section that she would update them once the playdate happens.
