The idea that dogs and cats are mortal enemies has been pushed for so long that even dogs have begun believing it—although in most cases, it isn’t true.
A dog called Maggie has amused social media users after her owner shared a video of her looking confused about “what to do with a cat that doesn’t hate her.”
On Tuesday, user @olivia_tilley posted the clip, which shows Maggie lying on her owner’s bed alongside their cat and nudging the feline as if trying to start a fight—before accidentally falling on the cat, who seemed unbothered by the dog’s antics.
The video quickly went viral on TikTok, receiving more than 1.9 million views, 455,000 likes and 1,000 comments—with one viewer writing, “I love that the cat is still so unbothered by her love tap.”
Newsweek has contacted @olivia_tilley for comment via TikTok comments. We could not verify the details of the case.
Even though cats and dogs who live together fight sometimes, studies have found that they can live together peacefully and even become the best of friends.
A study carried out by Italian scientists and published in the journal PLOS ONE found that more than 62 percent of the cats and dogs involved in the survey that lived together also played together; 58 percent chased each other; and 41 percent fought. Almost two-thirds of the pets sometimes playfully “made ambushes” toward the other.

Another user commenting on the TikTok video wrote: “Maggie got cuteness aggression. She just couldn’t help herself.”
“Be Gentle’ … *WHAMP* Gotta love the wrecking ball breeds,” a commenter said.
“You know how cats scent mark things they like? By rubbing their face, cheeks, base of tail against stuff,” another added. “Was Maggie raised by a cat? Cause that thump at the end took me out.”
“Omg my 75lb German shepherd would absolutely absolutely lose his mind if a cat didn’t hiss at him and let him approach,” a user said. “He loves cats.”
