Dog attack leaves 2 injured in north St. Louis

A woman was severely attacked and a man suffered bites while trying to protect their dog, police said.

ST. LOUIS — Two people were injured, one of them severely, when they were attacked by dogs while trying to protect their pet Wednesday night in north St. Louis.

According to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, a man and a woman, both 62, heard a disturbance late Wednesday night outside their home in the 5900 block of Theodore Avenue, located on the edge of the city’s Walnut Park West neighborhood. Noticing three dogs attacking their dog in the backyard, the man went out to stop them and was attacked. When the woman went out to help, she was mauled and severely injured.

Police said the woman was hospitalized with serious injuries and required immediate surgery. The man suffered dog bites. Police said there was no indication that his injuries were life-threatening.

At the scene, 5 On Your Side saw police and Animal Control taking away two of the three dogs involved in the attack.
