A video capturing a unique bond between a puppy and a horse has delighted viewers on TikTok.
The clip was posted by @oliviainlondon47 and has amassed over 523,000 views since being shared on November 4.
The footage shows a dog called Mabel sitting in front of a wooden barrier facing an open field, with a horse staring back at the pup. Mabel is a “bernedoodle” puppy—a cross between a Bernese mountain dog and a poodle—that’s turning one on Thursday, the poster noted in a later comment.
A note overlaid on the video read: “This dog and this horse. Every morning we have this.”
The dog is seen running off into the distance shortly before reappearing on the other side of another fence, staring back at the horse. The horse then spots the pup and the pair run across the field, galloping parallel to each other on opposite sides of the barrier.
In a later comment, the poster explained: “I do not know this horse but we walk past him every morning from dropping my daughter at school and every morning he comes over to say hi without fail and Mabel just gets so excited and they connect in a way I do not know what it is but it is lovely.”
The bond between the puppy and the horse in the clip is understandable because “dogs can form relationships of comparable qualities with both humans and other dogs,” and these relationships vary depending on the partner involved, according to a study published in Scientific Reports in March 2019.
Stanley Coren is a professor emeritus in the Department of Psychology at the University of British Columbia and the author of several books about dogs.
In a February 2013 article for Psychology Today, the professor explained: “Dogs that have been properly socialized will congenially approach virtually anything that is alive, regardless of its species,” noting that “unless they receive hostile signals, they will attempt to establish a good-natured relationship.”
“Although dogs are happiest when they are in a social situation, the species that they are interacting with is less important than the quality of the interactions,” he added.

In a later comment, the poster said the two animals “just love seeing each other every morning” and “I never interfere – just watch them everyday.”
She added “We do the same in afternoon at pick up. It’s so lovely. I just stand and watch 2 souls connect x.”
Users on TikTok were moved by the heartwarming bond between Mabel and the horse.
David casey said: “absolutely beautiful. what an honour to witness this every morning” and user9226931851034 said: “friends for life these 2 they have special connection.”
Sazsparkles noted: “Awwww this has just melted my heart. Absolutely beautiful and adorable furbabies.”
User uppsala47 said: “heartwarming and so beautiful brought tears to my eyes” and buddyboo5 wrote: “This is just so special. I love animals.”
