PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY, Md. — Ready to adopt a dog? Now’s the time.
Starting Friday, the Prince George’s County Animal Services Facility and Adoption Center (ASFAC) has resumed all activities, including dog adoptions and viewings in their placement room. The shelter temporarily put dog adoptions on pause for two days to implement quarantine protocols after an illness was detected among some dogs. Thanks to these measures, the illness was confined to the intake room.
ASFAC is still operating above capacity, with over 7,000 animals cared for in 2024, including dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, and even goats. They’re encouraging the community to help by adopting or fostering pets in need. If you’re unable to adopt, consider becoming a foster to help ease the burden on the shelter.
To help reduce the spread of illness, ASFAC advises keeping pets up to date on their vaccinations, avoiding communal water bowls, and seeking veterinary care if symptoms like coughing or a runny nose develop.
