My wife and I have a 4-year-old Morkie, her name is Latte. My wife, my granddaughter and I all had to agree on the name, and we chose that one for two reasons.
First, my wife loves Chai Latte’s, and second Latte’s color is similar to a latte. Plus, we didn’t want an average name.
I bring this up because the website Rover.com has come out with their most popular pet names for 2024. The top name for male dogs was again this year, Charlie.
The top five male dog names are Charlie, Max, Milo, Cooper, and Buddy.
The most popular female name was Luna. Followed by Bella, Daisy, Lucy and Lily.
There seems to be a lot of celebrity influence when people name their dogs. Taylor Swift as a name for a dog went up 461% this year. Bradley Cooper soared as well, going up 261%.
Another trend that was interesting this year was naming dogs after celebrities who passed away. The name “Chandler Bing”, which was Matthew Perry’s character’s name on “Friends” saw an increase of 45% following his death.
Wrestling great “Sid Vicious” was remembered by fans by naming their dogs his full name or just “Vicious”. After his passing, the name went up 111%.
After actress Shannen Doherty passed away, the name “Shannon” saw an uptick as well up 11%.
Here’s another trend I thought was interesting, naming your dogs after food. I know, I know, I’m the guy whose family named their dog Latte.
“Calzone” was a popular name this year, rising in popularity 211%. “Chive” also went up 211%. My personal favorite doggie food name went up as well, that’s the name “Pork Chop”. That went up 75%.
Rover.com picked 17 metro markets and broke their names down individually. Milwaukee was the closest market to us, the top names there were Luna, Charlie, Bella, Daisy and Coco.
Do you have a dog with a name that appears on the most popular list? Or are you like my family who wanted something different? Either way, enjoy the love you get from your four-legged friend.
