TISKILWA, Ill. (KWQC) – Bureau County Animal Control is investigating an animal cruelty incident after two dogs were found in a ditch by a DNR officer. The dogs had been shot to death and abandoned.
Bureau County Animal Control posted to their Facebook page warning of the disturbing post showing two dead dogs. The animal control center is now asking for the community’s help to find who is responsible.
Tuesday, the animal control center got a call from a DNR officer that two dogs had been found, shot in the head and thrown in a ditch, according to the post. It was out past Tiskilwa.
“We could tell they were took to that spot alive and shot there and then thrown in the ditch a few feet away,” the post said.
After the dogs were discovered, they were taken to a vet to be cremated.
The dogs had been scanned multiple times and no chips or collars were found on them, officials said. One of the dogs, was tan in color and was a “younger intact male, hound type.” The other dog was white and orange and was an older “intact male that was possibly blind in one eye.”
“If anyone knows someone that recently now is missing a couple dogs, all calls will be confidential,” the post said. “We believe the owners are somewhere local to the areas to know this out of the way spot. We need help locating the owners or the individual that did this.”
To submit a tip, officials say to call 815-879-5981.
