Some stories have a way of staying with us, and Helen’s is one of them. A new TikTok video shares the touching journey of this senior, disabled dog as she finds her way from the streets to a caring rescue home.
Video shows a disabled senior dog transformed and settling into a new home
Helen, a 15-year-old pup who is blind and deaf, was discovered buried behind a sidewalk slab in an attempt to seek refuge from two chasing dogs. Despite her age and disabilities, Helen managed to find a hiding spot on that bitterly cold day. Fortunately, her story took a positive turn due to the intervention of animal control officers and compassionate veterinarians. They shaved her matted, burr-covered coat and ensured she received the medical attention she desperately needed.
The video documenting the rescue journey of the senior disabled dog, from the streets to Michigan Doodle Rescue Connect (MDRC), has garnered 23,000 likes so far. The vets shaved and bathed Helen, then wrapped her in a cozy blanket and took her to a rescue home where she would no longer need to fend for herself.

Commenters on TikTok have expressed their gratitude and relief, with one user saying, “Thank you for rescuing this poor scared baby.” Another commented, “It takes a truly evil person to put out a blind and deaf dog. I’m thankful she is getting a new life with someone who cares.”
MDRC, based in Midland, Michigan, specializes in rescuing and rehoming Doodle dogs. While primarily focusing on owner and breeder surrenders, they did not hesitate to take in a stray in need. At the MDRC Ranch, dogs like Helen enjoy a loving environment with amenities that cater to their physical and mental well-being. From onsite veterinary care to massage therapy, MDRC gives these dogs every chance to heal from past traumas and embrace life anew.
