DICKINSON, N.D. (KFYR) – A Dickinson man has pleaded guilty to two counts of animal cruelty.
Police arrested 61-year-old James Sawvel in May after receiving a report from a veterinarian’s office that two dogs had been poisoned in Dickinson. After investigating, officers determined Sawvel put rat poison in meat and fed it to his neighbors’ two dogs. Both dogs suffered seizures; one died.
Sawvel will serve 90 days of jail time at the Southwest Multi-County Correctional Center, followed by three years of probation.
