Detroit teen charged in carjacking woman as she feed dogs in the city

A Detroit teen faces nine felony counts after authorities said he allegedly carjacked a dog rescuer while she was providing food to dogs at a home in the city.

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy said Dwayne Noah Alexander-Perdue, 17, faces charges as an adult in the alleged holdup.

“The victim in this case was providing an all too necessary service that is sorely needed in the City of Detroit. The defendant’s alleged actions in this case were the opposite of altruistic — they were predatory, violent, unacceptable, and criminal,” Worthy said in a statement.

Authorities said the victim, a 47-year-old Warren woman, was in the backyard of a Detroit home in the 17400 block of Charest, feeding dogs at about 3:30 p.m. on May 7, when the suspect allegedly approached her and produced a handgun.

The suspect is accused of robbing the woman of her car keys, then fleeing the scene in her vehicle, police said. Police arrested him later that same day, Worthy said.

Alexander-Perdue faces one count each of armed robbery; carjacking; unlawfully driving away an automobile; receiving and concealing a stolen motor vehicle; resisting and obstructing police; carrying a concealed weapon; and three counts of felony firearm.

If convicted on the robbery charge, the teen could spend the rest of his life in prison.

Alexander-Perdue was arraigned Wednesday in 36th District Court in Detroit, where he stood mute and a plea of not guilty was entered by the court on his behalf, according to online court records.

Magistrate Laura A. Echartea denied him bond. Online court records did not list an attorney for the suspect or a date for his next hearing.
