OTTUMWA, Iowa (KYOU) –
This dog name is Dom. Courtney Monohon, Assistant Manager of the heartland humane society says his wounds are starting to heal. He’s been becoming more social.
But that is not how Dom was found…
Monohon said, “It was horrible… you could fit your fingers in between Dom’s rib cage… “.
Ottumwa’s Animal Control picked up Dom and discovered that Dom wasn’t the only mal-nourished dog.
Monohon explained, “Everybody thought it was just one dog. That was not the case. There was another, Ozzy, that nobody knew about. “
When Dom and Ozzy were picked up by Animal Control, they reported Dom was 46 pounds and Ozzy was 33 pounds.
Family Animal Care in Ottumwa says they were 30-pounds underweight.
Monohon said Dom was, “3 days to a week” from dying with his previous owners.
Dom was at risk of dying and Ozzy was not far behind.
The owners, Stephanie and Travis warner claimed the dogs were sick and could not eat.
But Monohon says the dogs didn’t have any illnesses and were eating as soon as they came to Heartland.
“Yes, they have actually both gained 15 pounds,” said Monohon.
Soon, Dom will have some surgery to fix his pressure wounds. Then, Monohon would love to see them both adopted together.
Monohon said with a tear in her eye, “I just want them to go somewhere that they know nothing but love. “
