A Plymouth man has been arrested and charged with multiple crimes including 19 counts of Felony Animal Cruelty after authorities say they discovered 19 deceased dogs on his property.
Washington County Deputies were dispatched to a residence on NC 32 South, just outside of Plymouth, in response to a reported domestic assault, per officials.
Responding authorities were made aware of possible animal cruelty at the residence concerning hunting dogs.
Ryan Peele was arrested and charged with Assault on a Female. After the arrest, officials, including animal control, returned to the residence and say they discovered 19 deceased walker hunting hound dogs in varying stages of decomposition. Two dogs were found alive and were seized by animal control, although officials described the dogs as being in rough shape. The ages of the deceased dogs ranged from 6 months to 3 years old, although authorities were unable to determine the sex of the dogs. Officials say that due to the style of decay, the dogs appear to have died due to lack of food and/or water.
Peele was additionally charged with 19 counts of Felony Animal Cruelty and two counts of misdemeanor Animal Cruelty for the two dogs that were found alive.
Peele received a $19,000 secured bond on the Felony Animal Cruelty charges.
