The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office was called after an alleged dog attack Monday at the Evans Towne Center dog park.
Columbia County deputies responded to the dog park just after 9 p.m. for a trouble with subject, according to an incident report.
A 33-year-old man told deputies he was at the park with his dog when three other dogs surrounded his dog and began acting aggressively, according to the report. He said one dog bit his dog in the neck.
The man told deputies he went over to his dog, which was being attacked, and attempted to push the aggressive dog away, according to the report.
The man responsible for the three dogs, told him, “If you hit my dog again, I’ll hit you,” and began walking toward him and the dogs, according to the report.
Three women who were also at the dog park witnessed the altercation and their stories corroborated the man’s complaint, deputies noted in the report.
The owner of the three dogs told deputies his dog, Mary, went up to other man’s dog and the two dogs did not get along, according to the report. He said the 33-year-old “punched” his dog Mary and he reacted by yelling, “If you hit my dog, I’ll hit yours.”
The man said he was very upset during the altercation and “was mad because [the 33-year-old] had punched his dog,” according to the report. He added that he did not see his dog bite any dogs at the park.
On-call Animal Control said they would not be responding or taking a report of the incident because it was a civil matter, deputies noted in the report.
