Dear Editor,
My name is Matt and I am a proud resident of Culver City for several years. Together with my wife Tracy and our 22-pound dog, a mini-Aussie named Ginny, we walk to downtown Culver several times a week. Every walk we spend much of our time greeting other dogs and their dog owners on route to enjoying empanadas at Grand Casino, a glass of wine at Stanleys or any other number of dog-friendly patios that we patronize and sometimes sneak a snack under the table for Ginny.
With every visit, we pass the Culver City City Hall and notice the large unused space on Lafayette street just off of Culver Blvd. Everytime we pass, we can’t help but imagine what a new dog park would look like in that large unused space and how much of a better use it could be.
Downtown Culver City already attracts many a dog owner like Tracy and I, because of its incredible restaurants, entertainment and amenities. What if our furry friends also had something to look forward to outside of table scraps?
Therefore I would like to officially float the concept of converting the City Hall, Lafayette yard into a new dog park for the urban dog walking throngs that are already routinely visiting downtown. I believe it would create more local community connections, make Downtown even more attractive for patrons and most importantly give our four-legged community members a place to play, sniff and commune in canine harmony.
Best,
Matt MacNaughton
