In many day care facilities, dogs are separated based on their size or even their age, but one daycare’s unique way of separating their pups has gone viral online, and the internet is obsessed.
When dogs attend the Red Rover doggy daycare in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, they aren’t grouped by their breed or age, but rather, their energy levels. So, if pups want to go hang out at daycare and unwind in the sun, they’re able to do that without being bothered by their energetic compatriots who just want to play.
Paige Grisette, the owner of Red Rover, which also takes dogs in for boarding and grooming, told Newsweek that they use energy levels as the “primary determinant” for grouping dogs. This keeps the dogs happy as the boisterous pups can play as much as they want, whereas the calmer dogs can get plenty of uninterrupted sleep.
“One group will usually be much higher energy with lots of various play going on, and the other will be pretty quiet and slow,” Grisette said. “The group sizes will vary widely, but it’s also important to have a good person to dog ratio which keeps groups (and management) safe.”

The daycare takes in around 50 dogs on average each day, so they have a whole load of different personalities to cater for.
While they mainly look at how energetic and playful a dog is before determining whether they’re group A or group B, Grisette said age “plays a big role” and they do also have to factor in size sometimes.
A hilarious video was shared on the daycare’s TikTok account (@redroverhhi) showcasing exactly how different the two groups are. The clip shows the calm serenity of side A as the dogs lounge in the sun and amble around slowly, before contrasting with the chaos and mayhem of side B.
Dogs in the second group can be seen chasing each other around, play fighting, having battles with the hose pipe, and even practicing their agility. Of course, all that excitement does get tiring after a while, and the dogs in side B eventually wind down for a brief nap.
Social media users can’t get enough of the different groups, and the video has gone viral with over 1.1 million views and more than 125,500 likes on TikTok at the time of writing.
There’s no doubt that staff at the daycare love every one of their intakes, but Grisette told Newsweek that she “can’t help but have a few favorites.”
She said: “Just like a group of kids, they all have their individual personalities. As such, they all have their pluses and minuses.”
In the days since the video went viral, it has amassed over 360 comments on TikTok already. Many internet users hailed this hilarious way of separating the dogs, which certainly provides entertainment value.
One comment on the post reads: “introverts vs extroverts.”
Another TikTok user wrote: “Side A is for the dogs that made their owners think getting a second dog was a good idea, side B is full of the second dogs.”
Another person added: “this is honestly looking like the most effective sorting I’ve ever seen.”
While one person joked: “my dog is definitely a side B. Unfortunately, I am a side A.”
