DARLINGTON COUNTY, S.C. (WMBF) – Authorities are still investigating what led to someone being attacked by several dogs in the Pee Dee.
The Darlington County Sheriff’s Office said the incident happened Thursday along Blair Road and that one person was taken to a hospital.
Their condition is still unknown as of Friday.
Meanwhile, neighbors in the area say this wasn’t the first time these particular dogs have put others in danger.
Residents such as Joshua Stalvey claim this all could have been avoided.
“We’ve had numerous, numerous complaints about that dog,” he said.
Stalvey added that the aftermath saw multiple first responders along the rural road, while the dogs were taken to a county facility to be quarantined.
While authorities have not released any specific information about the victim, Stalvey said it was a young girl. He said that, as a father himself, the situation made his heart sink.
“With something like this happening to a little girl, that just hit right at home,” he said.
Stalvey and his family aren’t strangers to those dogs either.
“The dogs have come in our yard before,” he said. “[They] chased my kids back in the house. I mean we’ve even come out here and it’s chased my wife back in the house. Even my mother, she’s been out here cutting grass and it’s tried to get her on the lawnmower.”
No arrests have been announced in the case, but Stalvey told WMBF news he hopes someone is held responsible for the attack.
“You shouldn’t have your dog running around out here terrorizing others,” he said. “I hope that there’s a conviction for the people that own the dogs, because that’s medical bills and stuff that have to be paid and I pray for the family that had to go through that ordeal.”
The Darlington County Sheriff’s Office told WMBF News on Friday that it cannot give additional comment as the case is under investigation by it and the 4th Circuit Solicitor’s Office.
