Meet Dottie — a three-year-old bundle of love, loyalty, and resilience who’s still waiting for her forever home after being found alone in the aftermath of a tornado just after Christmas.
With no microchip and no one coming forward to claim her, Brookhaven Animal Rescue League rescuers believe this affectionate cur/heeler/Australian cattle dog mix was abandoned during the storm. Despite her heartbreaking start, Dottie has the happiest spirit — her entire body wags with excitement when she sees someone new.
She’s got a glossy black coat with white speckled markings on her chest, soulful caramel brown eyes, and a gentle, loving personality. Dottie is incredibly smart and eager to please. She knows basic commands, is house and kennel trained (though may need a refresher after shelter life), and absolutely lives for car rides and sunny spots to nap in. (See photo below)
She gets along well with other dogs and adores people. Cats? She’s pretty indifferent — which is a good thing!
Like many black dogs in shelters, Dottie has been overlooked time and again. But shelter staff say she’s a true gem — and all she needs is someone to give her the chance to love them.
If you’re looking for a loyal, sweet, sunshine-loving companion, Dottie may be your perfect match.
