PEORIA (25News Now) – It marks the start of the warmer seasons; Emo’s Dairy Mart is open and ready for the 2025 season.
Emo’s kicked off its return with half-price items from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. Friday morning.
People were lined up as early as 5:30 a.m. to ensure they could get their frozen treats and coney dogs for breakfast.
A portion of the morning sales will go to Susan G. Komen and St. Jude.
Robert Smith, family co-owner, said they prepared over one thousand coney dogs for opening day.
“Riverside Woodworking from Metamora was our first order; he had 16, then we had one for 24, then we had one for 125 from Uftring, so we get a lot of big orders. We’ve had a couple for 48,” said Smith.
For many residents like Mike Olson, this has become a decades-long tradition.
Olson said he has been an Emo’s customer for the last 62 years.
“My family moved here from Michigan on July 31, 1963. I was 15, and now I’m going to be 77. I don’t even have to give my order anymore. I probably come here five days a week during the summer,” said Olson.
Emo’s was initially set to open on Thursday, March 20, but they had to postpone until Friday due to the snow.
