PENNSDALE – “Firefighters did a phenomenal job of putting out attic fire,” those were the words
Pennsdale Fire Chief Scott Oldweiler used to describe the actions of firemen who saved a couple’s home at 545 Biddle Road in Mill Creek Township, where a fire erupted about 6:20 p.m. Monday.
The fire broke out right in the middle of an intense thunderstorm that inundated the county’s 911 dispatch center with countless callers reporting downed trees, many of them landing on homes.
While en route to the scene, first responders had to “maneuver around 10 to 12 fallen trees,” Oldweiler said adding that on at least one occasion, a fire police officer had to get out of their vehicle and remove a tree so fire trucks could proceed.
Firefighters from Pennsdale, Muncy Area, Hughesville, Montoursville, Picture Rocks and Muncy Valley fought the fire about 30 minutes before it was brought under control.
The fire was confined to the attic, but there was smoke, heat and water damage throughout the large home, Oldweiler, who provided this photo, said.
The couple and their two Golden Retrievers made it out of the home safely. A state police fire marshal is assisting with investigation into the cause of the fire. The couple was staying with relatives, the fire chief added.
