Last month, the Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD)held their second annual Iron Dog competition in Dickerson.
The three mile, off the grid obstacle course was designed for police dogs, also known as K-9’s, and their handlers. Organized by the U.S. Police Canines Association (USPCA) Region 3, the course included mud pits, hill climbs, and water crossings.
In view of their specialized training, the dogs also participated in shooting, apprehension and detection challenges.
The event raised $36,000 dollars for Spike’s K-9 Fund which provides bullet proof vests, medical cost assistance and training for the working dogs.
