Community walks to support adoption at Santa Rosa County Animal Shelter

MILTON, Fla. — The Milton community rallied together to support their local animal shelter Saturday.

An annual fundraiser aimed to expose shelter dogs to the public and find their fur-ever homes.

A day filled with furry friends, treats, vendors, and walking.

All an effort to showcase shelter dogs and help the Santa Rosa County Animal Shelter.

“They need that break,” Santa Rosa County Animal Shelter volunteer Venetta Schang said. “When they’re in the kennel 24 hours a day, it’s too much.”

This is their 2nd annual Who Let the Dogs Walk? fundraiser and adoption event in Milton.

“Walking around the park, they can walk as much as they want,” Santa Rosa County Animal Shelter volunteerNick D’alessandro said. “They can come here to us if they don’t have a dog with them, and take one of our dogs and walk them around.”

D’alessandro says this event gives shelter dogs a better chance to be adopted.

“Right now at the shelter, we have 70 dogs at the shelter itself and that doesn’t count the amount of dogs we have who are fostered, “D’alessandro said. “We have 4 or 5 dogs with us here today that are hopefully going to get visibility and maybe get adopted today. If they don’t get adopted then they get visibility. If people say they want to think about it then they can come to the shelter and see them in a shelter environment.”

At the Bagdad Mill Site Park, dozens of people joined the 3k walk.

“It’s wonderful, we want every dog to end up in a home,” Schang said.

For those who didn’t make it to the dog walk event, there’s still a chance.

The Santa Rosa County Animal Shelter has a Doggie Day Out Program.

“You can take a dog from the shelter, take them on a ride, or take them to Lowe’s,” D’alessandro said. “We usually like them to be taken somewhere where they interact with people.”

Dogs can be taken for an hour, half a day, a whole day, or even overnight.

The funds raised Saturday will go directly to friends of the Santa Rosa County Animal Shelter.

They will use the money to provide essential care, food, and medical support for the animals.

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
