CENTENNIAL, Colo. (KKTV) – A Colorado man experiencing homelessness was reunited with his dog days after she was snatched from him in Centennial last weekend.
According to the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office, Garth Walker was standing at a street corner Saturday when a man walked up to him and grabbed his dog Penelope so forcefully, officials said her leash and harness were ripped and Walker was left with a cut on his hand. Multiple witnesses reported that the suspect then put Penelope in his car and drove off.
ACSO said investigators had identified the “dog napper” when, on Wednesday, the suspect surrendered the dog to the Aurora Police Department. Deputy Delarossa with ACSO picked up Penelope from the department, notified Walker and reunited the pair.
As of this article’s last update, the dognapping suspect had not been publicly identified. Officials said he is facing a felony strongarm robbery charge and a criminal mischief charge.
Deputies shared that Walker and Penelope are doing fine and are staying in a local hotel through the ongoing cold weather.
