CENTER, Texas (KTRE) – A dog kennel operated by the City of Center was shut down and the stewards arrested Wednesday, the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office says.
According to a Thursday release, the sheriff was alerted to the Center kennel situation on Wednesday, when concerned citizens said dogs were being housed in unsuitable conditions. After an investigation, Robert Lindley, 39, and Christal Gayle Lindley, 44, both of Center, were arrested.
The release says the Lindleys’ alleged neglect led to the death of at least one dog, and numerous others were found with mange and in a state of malnourishment. Additionally, the release said the kennel did not have adequate airflow.
One dog taken from the kennel has been returned to its owner, and 14 others are being released to a Tyler rescue called Nicholas’ Pet Haven. Once the dogs have been treated for their conditions, they will be available for adoption at this link.
The Lindleys were both charged with cruelty to non-livestock animals on unreported bond amounts.
