Cincinnati chili cookoff raises money to provide service dogs to kids with special needs

CINCINNATI (WKRC) – After a couple lost their son to epilepsy in 2022, they decided to turn their grief into good.

Jill and Dave Heltman hosted their 2nd annual chili cookoff fundraiser on Sunday for their nonprofit Axl Foundation, named for their son. Their organization raises money to help provide service dogs to kids with special needs. The chili cookoff included live music, raffles and an auction.

“All we can do is try to make a terrible thing a good thing for other people, and if we can get one dog to one child, that gets that child help and our boy wasn’t able to receive in the middle of the night, then it’s all worth it,” said Dave.

Tickets for the event were $23 for adults and $11 for children in honor of Axl’s birthday on Nov. 23.

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
