CINCINNATI (WXIX) – Cincinnati Animal CARE has taken in a record number of dogs in July, only halfway through the month, and is set to break records.
The shelter is waving adoption fees to help get animals new homes.
“We are bursting at the seams,” Director Meaghan Colville said. “We’re on pace for about 450 dogs to arrive just this month.”
The pace would break the shelter’s previous record by over 100 dogs. It’s causing problems for animals already at the shelter – bigger dogs are being moved to puppy kennels while puppies are placed in smaller crates.
Colville said July is usually busy for the shelter. Between the Fourth of July fireworks and summer heat dogs are trying to escape the noise or the weather.
As a no-kill shelter, Colville says a dog will stay until it’s adopted. She said if your dog goes missing, look in your neighborhood and keep checking with the shelter. Dog owners can also check their website. Also post your missing dog to as many places as possible, including neighborhood Facebook groups.
