Welcome home, Dudley!
Chrissy Teigen and husband John Legend have welcomed a new furry friend into their family. On March 23, National Puppy Day, the couple shared a video compilation featuring pictures of their new pup Dudley via their pet supplies company’s Instagram account. The two founded Kismet in 2024.
Dudley was brought to the Wags & Walks rescue in mid-January, just after the Los Angeles wildfires began, and he was battling “severe” pneumonia at the time. Teigen, 39, and Legend, 46, recounted in the video that when they first saw Dudley, they fell instantly in love with him.
“When we first met Dudley, he was fighting for his life. Thirteen days in the hospital, endless love from his foster family and an incredible recovery later — he’s officially home,” they wrote in the post’s caption.
In some of the pictures in their adoption video, Dudley is cuddled by the couple’s two eldest kids, daughter Luna, 8, and son Miles, 6. (Legend and Teigen also have two other children, daughter Esti, born in January 2023, and son Wren, born via surrogate in June of the same year.)
In other snapshots from the adoption announcement, Dudley snuggles under blankets in his crate.
“We are in love,” the couple gushed of their new addition.
Back in January, Wags & Walks shared the first images of Dudley on Instagram, writing that he was receiving around-the-clock care and oxygen treatment for “severe” pneumonia. “While he’s made some progress, his body is still struggling, and sadly, he’s not out of the woods yet,” the rescue shared at the time.
Luckily for Dudley, he later caught Teigen and Legend’s attention.
The couple’s family has welcomed many dogs over the years (and other pets, including birds, hamsters and even a bearded dragon). Around the same time the couple adopted Dudley, the family mourned the loss of their beloved three-legged French bulldog named Penny.

Teigen shared the loss on social media in January, noting that Penny was born the same day she and Legend were married and that the dog had been a part of their family for 11 years. “Never forget that while every pup is just a few chapters in your long life, for them you are their entire book, their entire lives,” the cookbook author wrote in a touching tribute to the family pet.
While announcing Dudley’s adoption, Teigen and Legend acknowledged the loss of Penny, whom they lovely called their “tripod queen.”

“Nothing can replace the dogs we’ve loved before, but sometimes, the universe sends us the reminder that we need to open our hearts again,” they wrote in the caption of their adoption post.
Lesley Brog, founder of Wags & Walks, which rescues dogs from high-kill shelters in L.A. and Nashville, said in a statement that Dudley’s journey into Teigen and Legend’s hearts “is a true testament to the power of rescue.”
Brog added: “Seeing him go from fighting for every breath in the ICU to now being cherished by Chrissy, John and their family is nothing short of incredible. Their compassion and commitment to rescue mean the world to us, and we couldn’t be more grateful that Dudley has found such a wonderful forever home. This is exactly why we work hard to give dogs like Dudley the second chances they deserve.”
