SAN ANTONIO – Nestled near McAllister Park, Chicago Hot Dogs offers a taste of authentic Chicago-style cuisine, bringing a beloved Midwest tradition to San Antonio.
Located near Jones Maltsberger Road and Money Tree, this family-run eatery has been serving up classic Chicago flavors for the past four years. From the Windy City to the Alamo City, owner and operator Amado De La Torre made the move from Chicago to San Antonio in search of warmer weather and a new business venture.
Having previously run a similar restaurant in Chicago, he wanted to continue sharing his passion for the city’s signature dishes.
“I wanted to move somewhere warm, and when I visited San Antonio, I really liked the city. We started off with a food truck, but it was tough for me since I had never run one before,” he explained. “Eventually, we opened this restaurant, and business has been great. It’s been a process, but we’re growing every day.”
Chicago Hot Dogs specializes in classic Chicago fare, offering everything from signature hot dogs to Italian beef sandwiches. Some of their most popular items include: – Chicago Dog – A traditional Chicago-style hot dog topped with mustard, onions, relish, tomato, pickle, sport peppers, and celery salt. – San Antonio Dog – A unique twist on the classic, created in-house. – Chili Cheese Dog – A hearty, flavor-packed hot dog smothered in chili and cheese. – Italian Beef Sandwich – Served on authentic French bread from Turano Baking Company in Chicago and topped with giardiniera peppers.
Daily specials keep customers coming back, with discounts on featured menu items from Monday through Saturday. Specials are posted inside the restaurant.
With a 100 on their most recent health inspection, keeping the restaurant clean and organized is a top priority.
“We clean up after every rush, mop every night, and make sure everything is wiped down,” De La Torre said. “Organization is key, from utensils to food storage. The health inspectors show up unannounced, so we make sure to always be prepared.”
