For those who have a dog who’s full of energy, likes water and has a high toy drive, there’s a club that could be perfect for them.Chesapeake DockDogs is always looking for new members in all breeds and sizes.”That’s the bulk of what we do, we go and we compete and we just have fun with our dogs,” said Rachael Clatworthy, the president of Chesapeake DockDogs.Chesapeake DockDogs is a club that serves Maryland, Washington, D.C., and Virginia. They train in several different locations, including at Alpha Acres Dock in Marriottsville.”We jump our dogs in the pool. We go for distance, height and speed,” Clatworthy told 11 News.For distance, they call the competition “Big Air.””Some of the top dogs are jumping 9 feet, and the lowest height that you can do is 4 feet, 6 inches,” said Tony Newlen, with Alpha Acres Dock Diving.The club hosts four regional events a year. Grayson Ratner and his dog, Prince, have only been competing together for a year and a half.”Within their first year, (Prince) was already jumping over 20 feet. He was taking top three,” Ratner told 11 News. “It is way too much fun. I bring my family, my nieces, my nephews, my cousins. We got a second dog into it because we love it so much.”One requirement for the club is that the dogs have to be about 6 months old before they can start training. As long as they can compete, they can go well into their golden years.”It does become a bit of an addiction. Our dogs love it. We love it,” Clatworthy told 11 News.”It’s a great way to keep them active. It’s great for their muscles,” Newlen told 11 News.Chesapeake DockDogs has about 187 members, but it’s always looking for more of any breed, particularly dogs who have a high toy drive and likes to swim.”It’s a blast. It really helps develop the relationship between owner and the dog. It’s just great to see all the smiles when people are out here,” Newlen told 11 News.
