CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) – Charlotte-Mecklenburg Animal Care & Control is asking for help from the community as they are close to being at full capacity and in an emergency situation after more than 50 dogs were seized on Wednesday.
Officials said that officers with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Animal Care & Control were called to help assist Charlotte police on Wednesday, June 4, with seizing dogs that were at a property that police investigated.
Officials said that of they seized 51 dogs from the property.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Animal Care & Control said that the owner of these dogs terminated his ownership of the dogs by signing surrender forms.
Animal Care & Control said the dogs were all pit bull breeds and a lot of them were younger dogs and puppies.
Officials said they do not have an official count of male/female dogs or which ones were puppies or adults.
Officials said the dogs were given vaccinations and on Thursday they will start medical health checks on the dogs.
The dogs that pass health and behavioral assessments will be placed up for adoption as soon as possible, officials said.
Animal Care & Control said they desperately need people to come foster, adopt or do a staycation with one of the dogs.
If anyone is interested they are asked to come by the main shelter at 8315 Byrum Drive or the satellite shelter at 2700 Toomey Avenue.
The main shelter is open 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday – Friday and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekends the satellite shelter is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.
