CHARLESTON COUNTY, S.C. (WCIV) — The Charleston Animal Society is treating 23 dogs that were seized by the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office, the animal shelter said.
The seizure occurred Thursday in Awendaw. The dogs include one Walker Coonhound and 22 Beagles.
“Our first priority is to have these dogs examined by our medical team to see what condition each animal is in and then proceed to treatment,” Charleston Animal Society Chief Veterinary Officer Lucy Fuller said.
One of the dogs was found with paralyzed legs and is now receiving treatment.

“One of the dog’s back legs appeared to be paralyzed and the dog was seen dragging their legs through the mud,” Charleston Animal Society Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Aldwin Roman said. “When animals find themselves in this kind of situation, they have nowhere else to turn, but Charleston Animal Society.”
All the dogs will be evaluated and potentially placed in foster homes, the animal shelter said.
