A Huntsville man faces one count of endangering the welfare of a child after a 13-year-old girl was attacked by several dogs.
According to a complaint filed on Friday, Eric Cradic “created a substantial risk…by leaving [the victim] alone with dogs known to be aggressive,” which resulted in the victim being injured by the dogs.
The probable cause statement filed in Randolph County said the girl was home alone with the seven dogs on Jan. 7 when the dogs attacked. The girl suffered “numerous” punctures, cuts, scrapes and other injuries and required treatment at a hospital.
A neighbor who reportedly saw the attack happening tried to intervene with a baseball bat, according to the probable cause statement. The neighbor was able to distract the dogs long enough for the girl to get away, but the neighbor herself suffered several cuts and puncture wounds.
A news release sent out by the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office said that when a deputy arrived and encountered the dogs being aggressive, he killed at least one of the dogs.
The deputy who wrote up the probable cause statement said one of the attacking dog’s names is Lillith. He cited an incident in December 2024 in which Lillith and other of Cradic’s dogs knocked over some outdoor trash cans, then attacked the owner of the cans when they came out to clean the mess up.
According to the statement, a neighbor told deputies Lillith hadn’t been vaccinated against rabies, and that only one of the dogs had been vaccinated.
Cradic was booked into the Randolph County jail on a $10,000 cash-only bond. No court appearance has been scheduled as of Monday afternoon.
