AUSTIN – Gov. Greg Abbott announced over $8.2 million in Fund for Veterans’ Assistance (FVA) grants to 31 central Texas veteran organizations. The organizations serve more than 7,600 veterans and their families across 30 counties. The grants were awarded by the Texas Veterans Commission (TVC) as part of its Grants Across Texas program.
“Our brave veterans and their families selflessly sacrificed for the freedoms we enjoy every day, and they deserve nothing less than our continued gratitude and support,” said Gov. Abbott. “Central Texas is home to thousands of veterans, and with over $8 million in grant funding, we will provide them with critical services, including service dogs, clinical counseling, and legal support, to ensure they lead successful lives in our state. Texas will always honor and support our courageous veterans and their families.”
Presented at the Bullock Texas State History Museum, this marks the ninth stop in the grant tour, which will continue through October.
Since 2009, over $313 million has been awarded through the FVA to support services like financial aid, legal help, and housing assistance. Funding comes primarily from Texas Lottery Commission games and donations through state-issued licenses.
“The spirit of serving is evident here in the Heart of Texas as we award millions of dollars to organizations that provide direct services to veterans across Central Texas,” said TVC Vice Chair and Army veteran Mary Lopez Dale. “The breadth and depth of these awards is impressive with grants given to our new service dog program, Veteran Treatment Courts, homeless support, and many more necessary services.”
Veterans can find assistance at tvc.texas.gov/fund. Organizations can apply for future grants by November 12, 2024.
