CDC outlines new requirements for dogs crossing the border

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – If you’re planning a trip to Canada anytime soon, there are new requirements if you want to bring your dog along.

Starting August 1st, dogs will have to be at least six months old to enter the U.S.

They must have a microchip implanted before their current rabies vaccine. If they had a vaccination before, it would not be considered valid. You will also need a rabies certificate.

your dog must appear healthy, and you should fill out a CDC import form 2-10 days before entering or re-entering the U.S.

“the CDC has put out new guidelines mainly because of a concern about rabies, a viral disease that is always fatal in mammals, and I think they’re trying to be extra cautious,” said Dr. Kathleen Shaw, a veterinarian from West Mountain Animal Hospital.

New York assemblyman Billy Jones says the CDC needs to delay the changes, and people were not given enough warning. He said in a statement to WCAX, “This will directly impact the day travelers, campers, second homeowners and those with familial ties to the North Country and the many Canadians who visit our region… as well as locals who cross the border with their dogs.”

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
