Cats & dogs benefit at shot day

Oxnard—Durley Park was a whirlwind of great activity on Saturday, February 1, as the Ventura County Humane Society’s Cares Program provided free vaccinations for pets of low-income families.

THE park was filled with dogs and cats ready for love and great care.

The Humane Society of Ventura County (HSVC) was founded in 1932 by a group of dedicated animal lovers. After years of struggling with an overflow of animals in need and not enough space to house them, our beloved benefactor, Sara Bayless, bought and donated the beautiful 4.4-acre property that our Shelter has called home since 1982.

Dr. Christina Sisk is a Ventura County Humane Society Veterinarian and said they’ve had their low-income shot program in the community for years.

“We recently had a mobile unit donated to us by a very generous benefactor, so in addition to vaccines, we’re providing spay and neuter services free to low-income people in these communities.”

Pet overpopulation is a huge problem in Ventura County, and she said that bringing access to care is part of the solution.

“I grew up on a farm, but cats and dogs are my passion,” she said. “I love animals in all shapes and sizes. My impact is the greatest when I help my dog and cat populations.”

Vanessa Vejar brought Blanca, a poodle yorkie mix, and her granddaughter brought her mixed breed dog.

“He may be a chihuahua, but I’m not sure,” she said. “This is great they’re giving us an opportunity to get our dogs vaccinated.”

She brought her dogs for the first time, but her sister told her about it and sent her a picture of the flyer.

“I’m a dog person,” she said. “My doggie loves to walk.”

Jesus brought his bulldog, Tonka, and said free shots greatly help.

“We needed to get her vaccinated,” he said. “My wife found this on Facebook, so we came.”

He gets the dogs vaccinated, but his wife is the dog lover.

“She gets bacon snacks after her shots,” Jesus said.

Graham, a Belgian Malomar, is a faithful and loyal family dog.

“It’s expensive when you get shots through the vet,” the Dog owner said. “I love my dog’s loyalty and playfulness. Graham is smart, and she’s been great with time and patience.”

She’s volunteered with other organizations, and one of her dogs was recently neutered.

“I saw the remote clinic, and that’s a great service.

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
