The local animal rescue known as Castle Valley Animal Rescue (CVAR) was able to recently pull a total of 10 rescue dogs from the greater Los Angeles (LA) area on Wednesday, Jan. 15.
This is part of an initiative to save animals in shelters impacted by the Los Angeles wildfires that have devastated homes, businesses and acres of land. CVAR is an animal rescue through Boarding and Rescue Center (BARC). Best Friends Animal Society is fueling this initiative by transporting the animals outside of Los Angeles.
Best Friends then worked to call on network partners for assistance and CVAR has officially pulled rescue dogs in support of the initiative and the dogs have officially arrived in Price. The rescue will continue to offer support as more animals in need are rescued in LA, as resources allow.
“When disaster strikes, animals often become the forgotten victims. We couldn’t let that happen,” stated CVAR Executive Director McKenzi Layton. “Our team acted quickly to ensure these dogs had a safe place to land and a chance at a brighter future.”
In an effort to further support this great initiative, CVAR is urging community members to become fosters for these rescue dogs. As explained, a foster provides temporary care and shelter to animals in need by offering them a safe, loving environment while they await adoption or placement.
It was stated that fosters play a vital role in a rescue’s mission to help animals heal, grow and then prepare for their forever homes.
Furthermore, fostering keeps animal rescues like the CVAR afloat by helping to maximize resources like kennel space and food. In order to be able to save more of the LA dogs, the CVAR hopes to secure fosters for their California rescues and open kennels for future LA rescues.
“In the midst of this crisis, it’s been incredible to witness so many people helping people. By fostering, you’re joining that effort and showing that even from miles away, we can offer hope and healing,” stated Naomi Vazquez, CVAR Impact and Strategy Coordinator. “Fostering a rescue dog isn’t just about saving one life—it’s about being a light in someone’s darkest moment. Through this effort, we have the chance to stand with Los Angeles and show that even in the face of devastation, compassion can rebuild hope.”
As an added incentive for those that commit to fostering a dog, fosters will receive a $50 Visa gift card courtesy of Best Friends Animal Society, as a token of gratitude from the staff at CVAR. The staff hopes that this gift will encourage acts of kindness from prospective fosters.
“The need for fosters has never been more urgent. These dogs have been through so much, and with a warm bed and a little love, they can begin to heal. Our community has always stepped up, and we’re counting on you again. The gift of fostering is life-changing—not just for the dogs, but for the people who open their homes,” concluded Layton. “To show our gratitude, we’re offering a small token of thanks, but the true reward is knowing you’ve saved a life.”
