Canine bred to be working dog, instead lives best life with 8-year-old girl

A canine originally bred to be a working dog has forgotten all about her ancestry thanks to her 8-year-old owner giving her a taste of the pampered life.

The family’s dog Sadie is a German shorthaired pointer, or GSP. These working dog breeds are athletic and intelligent. Historically GSPs been developed to be versatile hunters, earning themselves the name of a “bird dog.” However, Sadie’s life is far from chasing down birds.

An Instagram video posted to the account @sadie_and_ruger_thegsps last month shows Sadie and her favorite human, the family’s 8-year-old daughter Caysley, having a spa day together. The mother walked in to find Sadie calmly sitting in front of Caysley in the bathroom. Her ears were pulled back with a cheetah print headband. She lifted her paw for Caysley to hold while painting her nails blue.

Sadie shot the mother a look as if their special day had been rudely interrupted. She finally tasted the life of luxury and no one was going to take it away from her, not that anyone in the family would force her into her dog breed’s tradition. She’s Caysley’s dog and part of the family. No working for her.

The mother wasn’t surprised by Sadie and Caysley’s spa day, noting this a typical day for the two peas in a pod. She told Newsweek via Instagram that Sadie and Caysley have been bonded since Day One.

“We raised Sadie, and from the moment her eyes opened, she chose my daughter,” she said. “I remember my daughter sitting in the puppy pool when the puppies were just a few weeks old and Sadie would always root her way to her.”

As Sadie got older, instead of playing and running around with the other puppies, she would follow Caysley. They’ve been attached to each other’s hips ever since.

The mother said Sadie comes with the family on all their vacations, she sleeps with Caysley every night and she’ll let Caysley do anything with her, as long as she’s rewarded with undivided attention, hence her patience with getting her nails painted.

Instagram Reacts

The Instagram clip amassed over 7.1 million views, 387,000 likes and 1,914 comments as of Wednesday.

“There’s nothing wrong with looking good when you’re hunting birds,” a viewer pointed out.

Another said: “The elegance level of this bird dog will be the envy of the whole hunt club.”

A third commented: “She’s like, ‘I feel like my ancestors are super ashamed of me but I really like this color so …'”

Others worried about painting the dog’s nails, however, a vet-reviewed article from Dogster reported that there are certain nail polishes specifically designed to be pet-friendly. These use nontoxic ingredients and are fast-drying, which prevents dogs from licking the nail polish off.

Owners are advised to avoid using human nail polishes as those have toxic chemicals to dogs, such as dibutyl phthalate, toluene and formaldehyde.

The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
