CANFIELD OH- Canfield took care of business at home Thursday, knocking off Poland 8-4 in a game full of big swings and clutch hits.
Poland struck first with a solo shot to right from Cassie Blanch in the second, but Canfield answered in a hurry. The bottom of the third turned into a crooked-number inning with Jenna Triveri’s RBI knock, a triple from Sydney Lutz that brought in another, and a couple of productive outs from Marina Koenig and Sofia Castronova to plate two more.
Lutz wasn’t done. She cranked a two-run bomb to dead center in the fourth, and Leah Figueroa added some late insurance with a solo blast in the sixth.
In the circle, Canfield leaned on Caylee Ortiz in relief. She came in early and locked it down—going six and a third, giving up just one run on three hits, striking out five. Paris Lindgren got the start but ran into trouble, handing it off after two-thirds of an inning.
Offensively, the Cards racked up 10 hits. Lutz was the spark plug, going 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Alexis Johnson and Ortiz each chipped in a pair of hits to keep the pressure on.
For Poland, leadoff hitter Elliana Thompson stayed hot, going 2-for-3, and Blanch’s homer was the highlight. They showed good discipline, drawing six walks, but couldn’t capitalize late. Next up, Canfield hits the road Saturday to take on Magnificat. Poland gets back to it Monday when they host Struthers.
