Bringing your dog to the beach might seem like a good idea, but good luck finding a place that will allow it.

In the offseasons, boardwalks and beaches are generally open to dogs and other pets. Once May comes around, it becomes more difficult to bring most pets onto the sand. Usually, unless the dog is a service animal, you won’t be able to bring it with you on the beach.

Delaware State Park beaches

At Cape Henlopen and Delaware Seashore State Parks, bringing a dog onto the beach is generally not allowed during the summer months.

Dogs are allowed in these parks, but are not permitted on sunbathing or swimming beaches from May 1 to Sept. 30, according to Delaware State Parks. Dogs are not permitted on sailboarding beaches or near shorebird nesting areas. They also have to be on a leash less than 6 feet in length.

There are camping rentals at both Cape Henlopen and Delaware Seashore and Cape Henlopen that allow pets, but excessive barking is not allowed during the quiet hours of 10 p.m. through 7 a.m. Guide dogs are permitted in all public areas.

Keep dogs on leashes and clean up after them as well if you’re walking them outside of prohibited dates and hours.

Lewes

Between 8 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. from May 1 to Sept. 30, dogs are not permitted on beaches under Lewes’ control. There are exceptions for seeing-eye dogs and dogs on the beach for any kind of official business.

If you have a dog on the beach outside of those times, it needs to be on a leash and cleaned up after.

Rehoboth Beach

Leave your dog at home if you’re coming to the nation’s summer capital. Between May 1 and Sept. 30, dogs are not permitted on the boardwalk or the beach. Service dogs trained to Americans with Disabilities Act standards are exceptions.

Dewey Beach

No dogs are allowed on ocean beaches in Dewey between May 24 and Sept. 7.

Bethany Beach

Between May 15 and Sept. 30, dogs are not allowed on beaches, boardwalks or strands in Bethany. There are exceptions for service dogs serving people with disabilities. Town code said that does not include emotional support animals.

Fenwick Island

Similar to Bethany Beach, dogs are not allowed on the beach, strands or boardwalks between May 1 and Sept. 30. There are exceptions for service dogs assisting people with disabilities.

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
