Terre Haute North came out swinging the bats early, and it would prove to be the difference maker Friday night.
Despite a seventh-inning rally from Columbus North, the Bull Dogs would fall short in 10-5 Conference Indiana loss.
The Patriots were stuck in traffic and arrived 75 minutes late, causing a massive delay of the first pitch. It didn’t seem to faze Terre Haute North.
Columbus North found itself in an early 5-0 hole after the top of the second.
The Patriots outhit the Bull Dogs only 12-10, but Columbus North failed to produce the extra timely hits needed. The Bull Dogs also made a few mistakes in the field by committing four errors.
“They hit it well. They hit the ball well the first couple innings,” Columbus North TJ Jarvis said. “It took a little while to get going. We‘ve got to get some of the mistakes cleaned up.”
Columbus North had a last spark in the seventh inning. Trailing 10-2, the Bull Dogs put up three runs on four hits, but the hole was too deep to climb out of.
“I thought we did a good job in the bottom of the seventh inning being a little more patient at the plate, and (Terre Haute North pitcher Kyleigh Walker) had a good change-up and staying on that change-up I think helped out a bunch.”
Payton Morris went 3 for 4 for the Bull Dogs. Miley McClellan was 2 for 4 with two RBIs, Avery Shehan finished 2 for 4 and Summer Williams was 1 for 3 with a double.
Columbus North will play Jennings County and New Palestine Saturday at Jennings County.
