Friday night didn’t go the way Columbus North had planned.
Visiting Cathedral pounded out 11 hits in the contest to give the Bull Dogs a 13-2 loss in five innings.
Ethan Dorsey got the win on the mound for the Fighting Irish (8-6), going six innings and allowing one run on three hits and six strikeouts. Franko Ortega took the loss for the Bull Dogs (5-8), going 2 2/3 innings and allowing seven runs on seven hits with two strikeouts. Dillon Long and Lane Schrader finished the game in relief.
Cathedral jumped out to a quick 10-0 lead after the top of the fourth, but North got a run back in the bottom of the fourth when Jackson Newman hit a a double to right-center field to make it 10-1.
The Fighting Irish added three more runs in the top of the fifth to put the game away.
The Bull Dogs collected five hits. Along with Newman’s double, Sam Perry slapped two singles and Brock Kintner and Schrader recorded the other hits for North.
The Bull Dogs will have several games coming up in the next week. They will host Conference Indiana foe Terre Haute North at 11 a.m. Saturday, then will host Shelbyville Monday, Silver Creek Tuesday and will travel across town to play Columbus East Friday.
