PHILADELPHIA – A Bucks County man is accused of beating and stabbing his two dogs to death after he felt “belittled” by his mother while visiting her at a nursing home.
George Ash, 40, has been charged with two counts of aggravated cruelty to animals and other charges in the brutal deaths of his dogs Shyla, 9, and Blake, 7.
District Attorney Jennifer Schorn called Ash’s actions “sadistic” during a Wednesday afternoon press conference to announce charges against the Newtown man.
What we know:
Prosecutors say on Jan. 18, Ash brutally beat and repeatedly stabbed his dogs, 9-year-old Shila and 7-year-old Blake, with kitchen knives at his home in Newtown.
“To say the defendants’ actions were inhumane is an understatement, they were sadistic,” District Attorney Jennifer Schorn told reporters on Wednesday.
Investigators say Ash called police on himself and reported that he killed his two dogs when he became angry following a meeting with his mother at a nursing home.
Prosecutors say Shyla, 9, and Blake, 7, were beaten and stabbed to death by their owner, George Ash.
Ash met responding officers outside the home wearing bloodstained clothing and was taken to a local hospital for medical treatment.
Schorn said Ash spent hours beating the dogs and used two kitchen knives to repeatedly stab the beagle mixes.
He also told police he then tried to take his own life, and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
What’s next:
Schorn said Ash is expected to surrender to police to face animal cruelty charges, which Schorn said could carry an 18-year prison sentence.
