Bride Is ‘Hurt’ After Family Member Can’t Attend Her Destination Wedding in 2027 Due to Dog: ’I’m Giving 2 Years Notice!’

  • A future bride polled her closest family members to see if they’d be willing to travel abroad for her 2027 wedding
  • When one female relative said she couldn’t make it because there would be no one to watch her dog, the bride got upset
  • She asked in an online forum whether she was being “unreasonable” for feeling hurt by the family members’ response

A bride-to-be is wondering if she should let sleeping dogs lie.

After a female relative confessed she won’t be attending the upcoming wedding because she has a dog to take care of, the future newlywed turned to community forum Mumsnet to express her frustration.

“My fiancé and I are planning to get married in 2027,” she wrote, adding that they plan to have a small “intimate wedding with immediate family” somewhere abroad, so she asked close family if “they would be up for it.”

“One family member that I am very, very close to and really want to be there said, ‘I can’t because of the dog,’ ” she recalled. “I said, ‘Well this will only be for immediate family so couldn’t your partner or someone else look after him?’ She said, ‘My partner works through the day.’ ”

Now, the bride-to-be is wondering if she’s unreasonable for being upset.

“I’m trying not to be because I know it’s a lot to ask, and if she would have said, ‘Oh I’m not sure, I’d have to see if I can sort out arrangements for the dog,’ that would’ve been absolutely fine,” she explained. “It’s just the fact that without even thinking about how to make it work, she just said no straight away. I’m giving 2 years notice!”

The OP (original poster) added that she’s struggling with her feelings in reaction to her family member’s response.

“I feel guilty writing this because I really love her dearly, but it has hurt me how she would gladly miss my wedding rather than try to find someone to look after her dog, or leave him with her partner for a few days,” the bride wrote.

Her April 19 Mumsnet post has netted more than 500 responses with many not siding with the OP.

“It’s the risk you take when you have a destination wedding. Not everyone will be able to travel,” a person replied. “The dog might be the reason she’s giving you, there could be others. You are being unreasonable for saying she will ‘gladly’ miss your wedding. You don’t know how she feels.”

Another reader pondered why she polled relatives in the first place.

“You asked people beforehand if they would be up for it, and you’ve got your answer,” the Mumsnet user said. “What was the point of asking if you were going to get so upset by someone saying no?”

The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
