Bowie County man’s arraignment set with charges of animal cruelty, killing dogs

NEW BOSTON, Texas – A Simms man in Bowie County has his arraignment set for Monday.

Stuart Duncan Hammonds allegedly killed several dogs in the unincorporated community of Simms, Texas, nine miles southwest of New Boston.

Hammonds allegedly stole some dogs when they were running loose; some were pets that were stolen from fenced-in yards, some of which were adopted from social media posts.

The Bowie County Sheriff’s office started the investigation in Oct. after several complaints were reported of missing dogs in the Simms community.

Investigators located the carcasses of 12 dogs on Hammond’s property. Most were found to have head trauma seemingly from gunshot wounds.

Reportedly, Hammonds would kill a dog to take out his anger and frustration when arguing with his girlfriend.

Hammonds remains at the Bi-State Justice Center.

According to court documents, his bail was set at $100K, and his arraignment is set for Monday.
