Bow Wow Ball is dinner/dance fundraiser for dog shelter in Wayne; wine, bourbon pull, too

  • Overcrowding in dog shelters is a growing concern, impacting the well-being of animals in need.
  • The event will feature dinner, dancing, auctions and games to raise funds for the shelter’s medical fund.
  • Proceeds will support the care of stray, abandoned, neglected and injured dogs in Wayne County.

The heartwarming wag of a dog’s tail doesn’t convey the challenges faced by overcrowded shelters struggling to provide care for their four-legged residents.

As the number of abandoned and surrendered pets rises, dog shelters are overwhelmed, grappling with limited resources and space.

“The Bow Wow Ball is our largest fundraiser of the year,” said Katelyn Lehman, shelter director and dog warden in Wayne County. “It is more than just a celebration − it’s a lifeline for hundreds of needy dogs. All proceeds from the event support the shelter’s medical fund, ensuring that homeless and neglected dogs receive the critical care they need to heal and thrive.”

When shelters reach capacity, each animal’s quality of life diminishes significantly. Dogs that once had the opportunity for individual attention and socialization may share limited space with too many others, leading to increased stress.

The evening offers spectacular entertainment and delicious food with a heartwarming purpose.

This year’s event is 5-10 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, at the Greystone Event Center, 50 Riffel, Wooster. Tickets are $65 per person or $450 for a table of eight.

“This is a great way to help us with our mission of providing temporary shelter, care and comfort to all stray, abandoned, neglected and injured dogs in Wayne County and reuniting lost dogs with their owners,” Lehman said. “Whether you’re looking to make memories with friends, support a worthy cause, or do both, the Bow Wow Ball will be a fun and meaningful night.”

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
