Boston man facing animal cruelty charges after 3 dead dogs found in parked truck

A Boston man is facing animal cruelty charges after three dogs were found dead in a moving van last week.

33-year-old William Cobb was arrested in connection with the incident and pleaded not guilty.

Last Tuesday, police responded to a report of a parked U-Haul truck in the Mattapan neighborhood that had a “terrible smell and bugs inside.” Police said neighbors described the smell similar to a “dead body.”

“Upon arrival, officers located an abandoned U-Haul truck with a terrible smell emanating from it,” Boston police said in a statement. “Officers opened the truck, and observed three deceased dogs.”

Three medium sized dogs were discovered in the truck, bloated and lifeless. The dogs are believed to have been in the truck during the intense heatwave that the city of Boston experienced all week, reaching temperatures in the low 90s. Animal Control was requested to respond to the scene for the removal of the dogs.

The official report stated that authorities had also responded to the same vehicle on July 2 and found six dogs inside the running van. They were alive when they were removed.

In court on Friday, prosecutors outlined disturbing details, including that the man was allegedly breeding the animals for money. A bag of dog food was locked in the front passenger side of the truck.

Cobb was arrested on three counts of animal cruelty and was committed to Suffolk County Jail after not posting bail.
