Bonded Shelter Dogs Have No Idea Their Lives Are About To Change Forever

The first time Layla and Lola landed in their local animal shelter, the tight-knit duo comforted each other while waiting for their family to return. Their humans eventually picked them up, but sadly, Layla and Lola’s time outside the shelter would be short-lived.

The sisters returned to the shelter two more times following their first stint. On their third and final shelter stay, the heartbroken girls realized they only had each other — and they clung to one another while hoping for a miracle.

Days passed, and no one showed interest in taking the girls home until Humans and Animals United (HAAU) saw their picture.

Time was running out to remove them from the shelter, so Rosa Fond, HAAU’s founder, immediately jumped into action. Fond raised emergency funds to collect the pups from the shelter and searched extensively for a foster home to take them both.

The hopeless girls had no idea how much work was being done behind the scenes to help them. They settled in for one last sleep at the shelter, unaware their lives would change forever in the morning.

HAAU volunteers arrived at the animal shelter the next day to claim Layla and Lola. The relieved pups couldn’t contain their excitement when leaving the kennel, and their gratitude made everyone emotional.

“Seeing them leave the shelter [that] kept them safe until we arrived brings tears to our eyes,” HAAU wrote on Facebook. “The girls have a new beginning, and this time, it will be a forever happily ever after!”

Volunteers transported Layla and Lola from the shelter to a veterinary hospital, where each pup underwent a thorough health exam. Both passed their exams with flying colors, making them officially eligible for foster care.

Thankfully, a loving foster family offered to take both girls in for as long as needed. After an extensive and tiresome search, HAAU rescuers were relieved to have found a loving temporary home for the sisters.

“They are bonded. We would never [separate] them,” HAAU wrote in a comment on Facebook. “They need [and] depend on each other. [It’s] the only way to do right by these girls.”

Layla and Lola soon went to their foster home, where they fell instantly in love with their temporary family. They’re still on the hunt for a forever home, but the two pups aren’t worried about the future — they’re too busy soaking up all the love their current family has to give.

“As promised, these girls have been kept together,” HAAU wrote on Facebook. “Fully vetted, they are settling in perfectly at their foster home.”

The HAAU team can’t wait to see Layla and Lola settle into their forever home one day soon. Until then, they’re comforted knowing that the girls are happier than ever, and their lives will only get better from here.

“They are definitely lucky girls,” HAAU wrote in a Facebook comment.

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
