Best Friends to welcome more dogs rescued from San Rafael Swell in need of foster homes

Best Friends Animal Society plans to take in three to four more dogs rescued after being abandoned in Utah’s San Rafael Swell National Monument.

A group of 13 dogs was discovered on April 23 by a pair of tourists in Emery County. Since then, 12 of the dogs have been captured by Trusted Trappers, a Utah-based dog trapping organization.

Best Friends recently took in five of the rescued dogs, all of whom have since been placed in foster homes. According to the organization, the dogs are adjusting well. One dog, named Luca, reportedly began to relax within three hours of arriving at his foster home.

“I can’t believe how quickly he went from so fearful he was drooling to curling up at my feet,” Luca’s foster caregiver said. “He is, of course, still terrified of hands over his head, people near him when he eats, new sounds, etc. But (he has) the malleability of a puppy and is following me whenever I move and still asking for pets and scratches.”

Best Friends said three to four more dogs would arrive at their Pet Lifesaving Center in Sugar House on Monday, May 5. They noted that many of the dogs remain fearful and will need patient foster homes to help them decompress.

“All of the dogs will be looking for foster homes to have a soft place to land,” the organization said.

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
