Organizers expected the third annual event to break a world record for most golden retrievers in one place.
BEE CAVE, Texas — On Sunday, Bee Cave hosted the Largest Golden Retriever Meetup in Texas.
The event at Star Hill Ranch, now in its third year, drew people from all over the country.
Organizers anticipated the meetup would break a world record for most golden retrievers in one place, with more than 1,700 dogs and 3,500 humans expected to attend.
New activities this year included golden retriever races, a dog toy run and an Air Bud look-alike competition.
River Landry’s 3.5-year-old golden retriever, Mason, was one of the competitors.
“My dad actually got an ad on Instagram and then sent it to me, and we were like, ‘Oh, we have to go!’” said Landry. “So, we’re from Arlington, and we drove all the way here to come.”
Landry added, “I just thought it would be so fun to let him see all his cousins and his siblings and meet all the other little goldens.”
Organizers are aiming to raise $15,000 for Gold Ribbon Rescue of Central Texas. The group finds homes for rescued golden retrievers.
